Why We Created Program:

We created “Tech Ready Youth: VR” in response to the pressing need for comprehensive support for children and adolescents grappling with mental health challenges. Here are some statistics that highlight the urgency and significance of our program:

  1. Prevalence of Mental Health Issues: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health conditions affect approximately one in every five young people worldwide. In the United States alone, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) reports that approximately 17% of youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder.
  2. Impact of Mental Health on Education: Mental health issues can significantly impact a young person’s academic performance and overall well-being. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that mental health disorders are a leading cause of disability among children and adolescents in the US, affecting their ability to succeed in school and beyond.
  3. Barriers to Mental Health Support: Despite the prevalence of mental health issues among youth, there are significant barriers to accessing appropriate support and treatment. According to Mental Health America, nearly 60% of youth with major depression do not receive any mental health treatment.
  4. Rise in VR Technology Adoption: Virtual Reality (VR) technology has seen widespread adoption in various industries, including healthcare and education, due to its immersive and interactive nature. Statista reports that the global VR market is projected to reach over $30 billion by 2024, indicating a growing interest in leveraging VR for therapeutic and educational purposes.
  5. Effectiveness of VR in Mental Health Treatment: Research has shown promising results regarding the effectiveness of VR in treating mental health disorders. A study published in JAMA Psychiatry found that VR-based therapy was as effective as traditional exposure therapy in reducing symptoms of anxiety disorders.

By combining these insights, our program aims to fill a crucial gap in mental health support for youth by leveraging the immersive capabilities of VR technology to provide engaging and effective therapeutic interventions, educational opportunities, and job readiness skills.
